There are objects that cannot be replaced. The environment that preserves them cannot fail — ever.
The market in detail
Cultural heritage collections face a conservation challenge that is fundamentally an environmental control problem: temperature and humidity fluctuations cause dimensional cycling in organic materials, accelerate chemical degradation in photographic and documentary collections, and promote the biological activity that destroys textiles and specimens. Preservation environments for collection stores, exhibition galleries, reading rooms and conservation laboratories — temperature stable to ±1°C, relative humidity controlled to ±5% RH, continuous monitoring.
Standards: ISO 11799 for document storage, EN 15757 and EN 15758 for organic materials, EN 16893 for heritage storage building specifications. The collection outlives every management team. The monitoring system generates the evidence that it did.
